Robert Channon – Verdelho 2022
When you think of Queensland Australia. You think sunshine, beaches, and rainforests. You do not think wineries. It’s a little-known fact that in southwest Queensland has a world class wine region. On a recent holiday, I took the opportunity to visit it again. I found the 2022 Robert Channon Verdelho which was a real delight.
I had written before that Verdelho was a favorite wine for me. The Robert Channon Verdelho certainly didn’t disappoint, at all.
This 2022 Verdelho was picked up as a travel wine. Just something I could throw into a hotel fridge and enjoy when I wanted.
However, it had complex tones and tropical fruit flavors pushed its way through. Sometimes it’s fun to try things you never would in places you never would normally try them. This is one of those times. Worked out well.
About the Verdelho grape variety
Verdelho is a white wine grape originally grown throughout Portugal. It was associated with the island of Madeira and also gives its name to one of the four main types of Madeira wine. At the turn of the 20th century, it was the most widely planted white grape in Madeira
Verdelho made its way to Australia in the 1820s and very quickly gained popularity. It was a similar weight to an unoaked chardonnay.
