Rutherglen And North East Victoria Wine RegionGippsland

Gippsland is in Victoria’s south eastern corner which was planted in the beginning of the 1970’s. The cool climate aided with good rainfall allows the area to produce quality Chardonnays and Pinot Noir.

Bass Phillips Wines

Established in 1979 by Phillip and Sairung Jones Bass Phillip wines is located at Leongatha, not far from Phillip Island and Bass Straight. It is far enough away from the sea to be a perfect location for grape growing and to produce quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Nicholson River Winery

Owners Ken and Juliet Eckersley established this winery in 1978 in the Bairnsdale area. The wines are mainly sold through the cellar door or by mail order. They produce a range of Pinot Noir, Semillon, Sangiovese, Syrah/ Merlot and Syrah Viogner.

Macedon

The elevated Macedon ranges are about 3,000 feet (1,00Mts) high and dominate the region with wind chill and autumn frosts, making it one of Australia’s coldest regions. The region forte is sparkling wine made from the traditional combination of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Craiglee, Sunbury

Craiglee winery was replanted in 1976 after an absence from the Australian wine landscape. All the wines produced are from grapes grown on the estate. Winemaker Pat Carmody produces an excellent Shiraz and Chardonnay. The cellar door is open on the first Sunday of the month, and other time wines may be purchased on line.

Hanging Rock Winery

Established in 1982 by owners John and Ann Ellis, and it is located one hour from Melbourne, 3 kilometers from the tourist landmark of Hanging Rock. They produce a good quality “Macedon” Brut Cuvee and Hanging Rock Sauvignon Blanc.

Knight Granite Hills Wines, Macedon

Established in 1979 by owners Llew, Gordon and Heather Knight. After forty years of viniculture the Knight family continue to produce a quality range of: Vintage Sparkling, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Shiraz.
